Tom Hunt, a 12-year-old Spelthorne resident and the son of our Trustee Tina, has so far raised an impressive £8,000 for Home-Start Spelthorne by committing to complete 10,000 push-ups in just 6 months. His challenge, which began on 1st October 2023, has already surpassed the initial target.
Tom’s mum, Tina Hunt, is one of Home-Start Spelthorne’s Trustees, and she’s delighted with his fundraising efforts. “I am really proud of what Tom has achieved already, and I have been impressed by his determination and perseverance. I can’t thank everyone enough for supporting him – it has made a huge difference to him as well as Home-Start Spelthorne”.
In a time when funding cuts pose challenges, Tom’s dedication takes on even greater significance, highlighting the crucial role of community fundraising in supporting organisations like Home-Start Spelthorne.
We recently had the opportunity to get better acquainted with Tom and posed a few questions to delve into the details of his inspiring challenge:
What made you choose to fundraise for Home-Start Spelthorne?
I really appreciate how Home-Start Spelthorne supports families with young children and makes their lives so much better, and I wanted to help.
Why 10,000 push-ups, and have you wished you chose something easier?
I thought if I chose something really hard that would take a long time, we might raise more money for Home-Start Spelthorne. I also wanted to be able to do it anywhere and be able to film it and for it to be something reasonably healthy so people felt they could support me!
Yes, at times I definitely have wished I had chosen something easier; however, it is getting better as I get stronger. I am interested to see how good I get over the challenge. Maybe by the end of March, I will be like the Incredible Hulk!
How did you feel when someone donated £5,000?
I was shocked and so happy and grateful all at the same time; it actually took a while to sink in. That £5,000 and all the other donations will make a massive difference to some local families with young children who are facing difficulties. I am proud to have helped, and huge thanks to all those who have supported me. If the £5,000 donor is reading this, I would like to say that really motivated me, and I still can’t quite believe your generosity. You will have paid Home-Start Spelthorne 50p for every one of my push-ups!
In responce to Tom’s fundraising efforts, our Family Support Manager at Home-Start Spelthorne, Michelle Herring, had this to say:
“Home-Start Spelthorne are over the moon with this young man’s determination and dedication. This money will allow us to continue our fantastic work in the community with families experiencing challenges.”
What a superstar you are Tom! Home-Start is a fantastic charity which we wholeheartedly support. Keep going!
Wanted to encourage this boy – now he is at £1000 which is amazing! Home-Start is such an important charity.
Wow Tom, We couldn’t do even a fraction of that- you are clearly no pushover but you are an inspiration. Xx
