Last week, Home-Start Spelthorne families and volunteers showed their true “rain or shine” spirit at our picnic in the park! Despite a very wet start to the day, which had us all checking the forecast anxiously, we decided to brave the weather and continue with our picnic plans.
At 11am families began to arrive, the children were kitted out in their wet-weather gear, ready for anything. Their enthusiasm was infectious and quickly lifted everyone’s spirits.
Lunch was generously provided by Surplus to Supper, and it was an incredible spread! Not only did we have enough delicious food for everyone to enjoy a hearty lunch at the picnic, but most families were also able to take a bag of food home with them, which was a wonderful bonus.
We were lucky to have a couple of hours of warm sunshine and the children were able to run around and play freely, making the most of the dry spell. Parents also had an opportunity to chat to other parents.
However, as the afternoon wore on, the heavens opened once more, signalling it was time to pack up and head home. Despite the bookends of rain, the middle of our picnic was filled with laughter, good food, and shared moments that truly highlighted the resilience and joy of our Home-Start community.
A huge thank you to all the families and volunteers who joined us, and especially to Surplus to Supper for their incredible support! And we canβt forget Bupa who have provided the funding for us to organise days out for families. It was a memorable day, proving that a little rain can’t dampen the Home-Start spirit!
